French Revolution

On the morning of 14 July 1789, there was an atmosphere of panic in the city of Paris.

The emperor ordered the army to enter the city.

A rumour spread that the army had been ordered to fire on the citizens.

7000 people gathered in front of the town hall and decided to form a people’s army.

People forcibly entered government buildings.

People broke into the Bastille fort and looted the prison,

prisoners were freed and the commander of the Bastille was killed.

The Bastille was a symbol of the emperor’s power, which was hated by the people.

People broke the fort and sold the remains in the market.

This incident was followed by many more clashes in Paris and rural areas of the country for several days.
