The Cabinet has approved the closure of India-Development Foundation of Indians living abroad Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the closure of the India-Development Foundation (IDF-OI) of Indians living abroad so that for the major programs of the government like National Clean Ganga Mission and Clean India Mission Coordinating to give direction to the contribution of the Diaspora Indians.
As the donation from the foreign-based Indian community received only Rs 36.80 lakhs from the foundation between December 2008 to March 2015, IDF-OI got a detailed review in 2015. To promote major programs like the National Clean Ganga Mission and Clean India Mission; And the social and development projects identified by the State Governments were included in the IVF-II order letter.
Although the trust received 10.16 crore rupees between April 2015 and March 2018, most of the money received was related to the National Clean Ganga Mission or Clean India Mission, whose management was being separated by their respective agencies. In order to improve coordination, improve efficiency and prevent duplication of work, it was decided to close the trust on 31st March, 2018 at the 9th meeting of IDF-Oi Trust Board.
With the approval of the Cabinet in 2008, the government had set up IDF-II as an autonomous non-profit trust, to facilitate the contribution of Overseas Indians voluntarily in the social and development projects of India.
