history nationalism in Britain
How was the history of nationalism in Britain unlike the rest of Europe
(i) Nationalism in Europe developed as a result of powerful revolutions, wars and military campaigns. An example of this is the unification of Germany and Italy.
(ii) But Britain was an exception to this. There was no war fought for nationalism.
(iii) Britain included ethnic groups like English, Scottish, Wales etc.
(iv) The British gradually became powerful among them and they started dominating other ethnic groups.
(v) First they included the Scottish people in their country and then established dominion over them.
(vi) They then controlled the Irish people and thus the United Kingdom of Great Britain emerged without any bloodshed.
