SIMON COMMISSION

The British appointed a commission to review the law and order of the country which was getting out of control and to bring out with new reforms. This was the Simon Commission. It was a group of people led by a British politician Sir John Simon. The Indians were against this commission because not even a single Indian was made a member of it. In 1929, when the commission came to India, they were greeted with the slogan, “Simon Go Back.” A new group of very young revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, Sukhdev, BK Dutt, and Chandra Shekhar Azad became active and popular during this time.

We see an object only when light that falls on it reflects and reaches our eyes.

The sun is a star.

It is made up of gases that burn all the time producing heat and light.

The sun is millions of kilometres away from us, yet its light reaches the Earth.

This shows that light can travel from one place to another.

We are able to see objects during the day because of sunlight.

The moon

The moon is the brightest object in the night sky, but it does not have light of its own.

The moon appears bright because light from the sun falls on it.

The moon is the Earth’s natural satellite.

It revolves around the Earth as well as rotates on its axis.

As the moon revolves around the Earth, on some nights we see the full bright side of the moon.

On such nights, the moon appears round.

But on most nights, only a of the bright side of the moon is visible.

That is why we see different phases of the moon.
