1. How does Toto come to grandfather’s private zoo?
Grandfather purchased Toto from a tonga-driver for five rupees. The monkey was tied to a feeding-trough and appeared uncomfortable there. Grandfather decided to bring him home to his private zoo.
2. “Toto was a pretty monkey.” In what sense is Toto pretty?
Toto had bright eyes full of mischief, white teeth that he showed in a smile, and quick fingers. His tail added to his good looks and also helped him hang from branches.
3. Why does grandfather take Toto to Saharanpur and how? Why does the ticket collector insist on calling Toto a dog?
Toto was very naughty and troubled other animals in the house. So, grandfather decided to take him to Saharanpur. He carried Toto in a big black canvas bag. The ticket collector called Toto a dog because there was no rule for a monkey’s fare, and he charged the fare for a dog.

Toto took a bath by stepping into warm water one foot at a time, then rubbing himself with soap. He learned this by watching the narrator. One day, he jumped into a kettle of boiling water and almost boiled himself alive.

Toto was very mischievous and caused a lot of trouble. He broke dishes, tore clothes, and scared people. The family could not afford his mischief, so they decided he was not suitable as a pet.
